Prospects to improve the nutritional quality of crops

چکیده

A growing world population as well the need to enhance sustainability and health create challenges for crop breeding. To address these challenges, not only quantitative but also qualitative improvements are needed, especially regarding macro- micronutrient composition content. In this review, we describe different examples of how nutritional quality crops bioavailability individual nutrients can be optimised. We focus on increasing protein content, use alternative improving functionality. Furthermore, approaches content vitamins minerals healthy specialised metabolites long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids considered. addition, methods reduce antinutrients toxins presented. These could help decrease ‘hidden hunger’ caused by deficiencies. a more diverse range with improved profile shift healthier sustainable plant-based diets.
